Cookies Policy

What we set in your browser, and how to refuse it.

This page explains the cookies and similar technologies used on wildsun.net, what they do, and how to control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Cookies let a site remember things between page loads or between visits — for example, that you have already dismissed a banner, or that you arrived from a particular source. Some cookies are set by the site you are visiting (first-party cookies). Others are set by services the site loads, such as analytics providers (third-party cookies).

This policy uses “cookie” to cover cookies and similar technologies (local storage, pixels, fingerprinting techniques) where they have a comparable effect.

2. Cookies we use

Strictly necessary

We do not set any first-party cookies of our own that are required for the Site to work. The Site is a static site and does not log you in, hold a basket, or carry session state.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read, how long visitors spend on them, and how people arrive at the Site. Google Analytics sets the following cookies:

CookieSet byPurposeDuration
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes one visitor from another2 years
_ga_<container-id>Google AnalyticsMaintains session state for the GA4 property2 years

We use Google Analytics in a configuration that:

  • enables IP anonymisation
  • does not link analytics data to other Google services for advertising purposes
  • does not enable Google Signals

Even with these settings, Google Analytics is treated as a non-essential cookie under UK rules (PECR). It is only set in your browser after you give consent.

Advertising

We do not set advertising cookies. We do not run third-party advertising on the Site.

3. How to control cookies

On this Site. When you first arrive at the Site, a consent banner asks whether you accept the analytics cookies described above. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.

In your browser. All major browsers let you block cookies entirely, block third-party cookies only, or delete existing cookies. Instructions for the most common browsers:

Google Analytics opt-out. Google publishes a browser add-on that prevents Google Analytics from collecting data on any site you visit.

Do Not Track. The Site honours the browser-level “Do Not Track” signal where your browser sends one: Google Analytics will not load on that visit.

If you refuse analytics cookies, the Site will work as normal. We will not be able to see your visit in our aggregated reports.

4. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the cookies we use change. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised.
